My story

After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, I pursued a Master's in Business Administration. Yet, my quest for knowledge did not cease there. A deep admiration and curiosity for Arabic calligraphy blossomed within me, nurtured by reciting the Qur'an and witnessing its beauty in my everyday life. This led me on a quest to find a teacher, and I was fortunate to learn from the esteemed Ustaad Arshad, a Gold Medalist Calligrapher in India. Under his tutelage, I specialised in the Naskh Script in 2014. This journey has become a vital part of my identity. With the blessings of Allah SWT and the steadfast support of my family, Deccan Arts was born in 2020.

Adorning the Mihrab

First In New Zealand

In March 2022, during the sacred month of Ramadan 1443 AH, I was humbled and honored to bring my passion for Arabic calligraphy to the heart of the Westgate Islamic Centre in Massey. To design and adorn the Mihrab, this project became a deeply personal and spiritual endeavor a dream fulfilled through the intersection of faith and artistry.

Westgate Islamic Centre, Massey

Over the course of 30 hours, I poured my heart into every detail, callighraphed "Bismillah" on the right and "Kalimah Tayibah on the left wall of the Mihrab which are circular compositions of the verses by Master Calligraphers.

Alhamdulillah

Each composition spans approximately 60 cm in diameter. The calligraphy designs are framed with delicate floral motifs that flow seamlessly across the arched contours of the Mihrab, enhancing its architectural elegance while paying homage to traditional Islamic artistic heritage

This work represents more than a creative milestone: it is a moment of profound gratitude and spiritual connection as this makes me the first artist in New Zealand to do calligraphy in a Masjid, Alhamdulillah Ya Rab I carry this experience as a cherished chapter in my journey as a calligraphy artist, where devotion and design meet in divine harmony. My work now continues at Avondale Islamic Centre and NZICT, and inshAllah, many more masajid in the future.

My Largest Artwork

Asma al-Husna Artwork

In April 2025, I reached a profound milestone in my artistic journey with the creation of Asma al Husna the largest and most personally significant artwork of my career. This piece, featuring the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah, is set against a dreamy night sky rendered in rich shades of Prussian blue, Phthalo blue. deep blue, and white. Delicate sprinkles of white paint dance across the surface, evoking the serene twinkle of stars and the vastness of the space.

The Beautiful 99 Names of Allah

At the heart of the composition lies the name "Allah," illuminated in radiant gold leaf. This luminous centerpiece shines through the artwork and, I hope, into the hearts of those who witness it a symbolic reminder of divine presence amidst the vastness.

Bringing this vision to life was both a creative and spiritual journey. The sheer scale of the canvas presented unique challenges, from technical execution to overcoming creative blocks. It took several months marked by trials, redos, and moments of doubt to finally achieve a background that resonated with the depth and tranquility I had envisioned.

Beyond its spiritual essence, Asma al Husna is also a mathematical wonder. Careful calculations were essential to design and fit each name within its own space, while maintaining consistent spacing and visual balance across the canvas. This ensured that the names remained beautifully aligned and easily readable, while still allowing the depth and movement of the night sky background to shine through the calligraphy a seamless harmony between structure and soul.

A Journey Through the Beautiful Names

Every detail was crafted with intention and devotion. I tested dozens of gold tones before selecting the perfect hue that harmonized with the celestial backdrop. Each name of Allah was calligraphed with care, accompanied by dhikr and heartfelt duas, as I prayed for my work to be accepted and for my sins to be forgiven. It represents the fusion of faith, perseverance, precision, and artistry a testimony to the power of intention and love poured into every stroke.

While I've had the honor of creating hundreds of artworks over the years, Asma al Husna calligraphy artpieces hold a special place in my heart as narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "Allah has ninety-nine Names, one-hundred less one, and he who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." - Sahih al-Bukhari 7392

Calligraphy Artpiece

Baab al Ka'aba Kiswa

Baab al Kiswa Calligraphy artpiece is a deeply personal and spiritual artwork inspired by the sacred cloth that adorns the Ka'aba in Masjid al-Haram, Makkah. It's calligraphy rendered entirely by hand using ink and a traditional calligraphy pen, this piece captures the intricate elegance of Islamic calligraphy while honoring the symbolism of the Kiswa's door panel. The elegantly beautiful border patterns painted delicately using a fine tip brush and ink is where each stroke reflects a balance between devotion, discipline, and artistic expression. The process took over six weeks, requiring focused precision and a deep connection to the spiritual significance behind the design. This work stands as a testament to my reverence for Islamic art and my dedication to preserving its timeless beauty through contemporary craftsmanship

The Kiswa Calligraphy Collection

The Kiswa Calligraphy Collection was a set of three artpieces, each recreating the intricate patterns of the Kiswa of the Ka'aba. It is a profound artistic endeavor-especially with one piece standing out as the Kiswa of the Door (Baab al Kiswa). The door of the Ka'aba (Al-Baab al-Tawbah or Baab) is one of the most sacred and visually striking elements, adorned with gold, calligraphy, and geometric patterns

Why the Kiswa of the Door Stands Out

Symbolism & Sacredness The door represents the threshold to the holiest site in Islam., making it deeply spiritual. The effort to recreate carries layers of meaning-both in its design and spiritual connection to it. Intricate Detailing - The real Kiswa features elaborate gold embroidery, Thuluth calligraphy, and arabesque motifs. Replicating this with ink and pen on canvas demanded immense precision. Architectural & Artistic Fusion Unlike the draped Kiswa fabric, the door is a structured, monumental piece-blending calligraphy, geometry, and sacred architecture. Hence, recreating The Kiswa Calligraphy into an artpiece on framed canvas is a significant achievement for a calligrapher.

The Verse of The Throne, a round artwork with intricate gold Arabic calligraphy on a dark blue background, is displayed on a wooden easel with green plants nearby.
